EUROVISION SONG CONTEST: THE STORY OF FIRE SAGA (Movie)

Grade: 3/5

Genre: Comedy

Ages: 16+

Synopsis: If you are in the mood for a goofy yet interesting movie to pass your time, Fire Saga fits the bill. A comedic take on the Eurovision contest – an annual competition of singers/groups in Europe vying for the top prize of Best Song where one winner nation is crowned. Having lived in Europe – it was and still is a BIG deal. The always entertaining Will Ferrell and the charming Rachel McAdams star as Lars and Sigrit – an Icelandic singing duo living in the small town of Husavik. Their goal in life, since the ages of 12, had been to represent Iceland in Eurovison – being held in Edinburgh, Scotland this year. Unfortunately – their singing is more of a joke with the locals than anything else. Even Lar’s father (played by Pierce Brosnan) has disowned his son’s singing and has no desire to be associated with him or his vocal ability. However due to some extremely odd happenstance, they end up being selected as Iceland’s entry into Eurovision – much to the chagrin of the Icelandic government. What ensues is a farcical set of events when they arrive in Edinburgh leading to the finale. Favorite parts of the movie were scenes of the breathtaking Husavik (Iceland) and the enchanting Edinburgh (Scotland).
