Synopsis: Bobby “Axe” Axelrod has become quite the fictional folk hero in the world of New York money. Brilliantly played by Damien Lewis (Homeland), Bobby Axelrod is the founder of Axe capital, a hedge fund company, and uses his genius, wit, guile and somewhat corrupt practices to gain an edge over his competitors. Making money is his one and only ambition – by hook or by crook. On the other side of the spectrum stands US Attorney Chuck Rhoades (Paul Giamatti) who is hell bent on one thing – entrap Axe at all cost. The high stakes cat and mouse chess game played between these two rivals is what drives this series to be one of the best out there in this genre. What complicates matters further is Wendy Rhoades (Chuck’s wife) is a psychiatrist at Axe’s firm so her loyalties are split between Axe, her boss and Chuck, her husband. Money, power and politics are all in play in “Billions”. The show does take its time developing characters and all the scheming but brings it altogether in a crescendo.
