Baaghi is a 2017 Pakistani drama par excellence that revolves around the true story of social media influencer Qandeel Baloch (played superbly by the best actress in the Subcontinent in my estimation, Sabah Qamar). She brings to life the character of Qandeel Baloch (called Kanval Baloch in this drama) who was eventually murdered by her brother for “disrespecting” the family through her outgoing and provocative personality. The drama is not 100% true to the actual chain of events but it is true enough. Acting by the other characters is also top notch. Direction by Farooq Rind is perfect – not one scene is out of place. Everything from the humble living quarters in the village, to Qandeel’s relationship with her mother (strong acting by Saba Faisal), to the multi dimensions of the lead character…it’s all executed brilliantly. An ode to the writing and direction. Sabah Qamar probably occupies 95% screen time in the drama and she excels in every scene.
Drama was released in 2017 but just having seen it, wanted to give it the accolades it deserved.
