Synopsis: Indian drama about cops, underground mafia and the press. Story revolves around a low level but determined cop, Hathi Ram Chaudhary, being handed a high profile case that puts him on the map. The case involves an assassination attempt on the life of a well known journalist where the police have rounded up four suspects. Hathi Ram delves deeply into the life of each of the four and finds out shocking truths, lies and disturbing realities. There is an element of fake news by the media in arriving at erroneous conclusions – jumping the gun and blaming “Muslim terrorists” but the truth is anything but. A good “lessons learned” the show tries to portray.
Paatal Lok is made by Anushka Sharma’s production (Clean Slate Films). Not a bad attempt but felt at times it was trying too hard to be sensational instead of letting the characters naturally evolve. Still, a solid watch, strong acting and intense situations. Caution that it does have very bad language and some tough scenes to watch.
